Continual 和 continuous 都有“持续的”意思 ， 因此常常被混着使用 ， 而且搞混的时候经常让人抓狂 ， 因为它们像一对双胞胎一样；虽然他们的差异逐渐消失 ， 而且经常被交替使用 ， 但在差异消失之前 ， 它们还是有差别的 。
一、continuous
Continuous [k?n?t?nju?s] ， 它的英文解释是：happening or existing for a period of time without interruption
由此可见 ， Continuous 所表示的持续在时间或空间上是没有中断的 ， 只作前置定语 ， 相当于 nonstop 或 unceasing ， 意为“持续的 ， 连续的”等 ， 例如：
【concentrated concentrate】The tape ran in a continuous loop, repeating the same songs over and over.
磁带连续循环播放 ， 一遍又一遍地重复着同样的歌曲 。
After a couple of days of continuous use, the costumes began to pong
连续使用了几天后 ， 服装开始流行起来 。

二、continual
Continual [k?n?t?nju?l] ， 它的英文解释是：repeated many times in a way that is annoying
由此可见 ， continual 包含多个 come 和 go 的过程 ， 就像慢性病一样 ， 时而犯病 ， 时而没有 ， 因此有的时候很恼人 ， 相当于 recurring 或 repeated ， 意为“重复的 ， 频繁的”等 ， 例如：
He was in a continual process of rewriting his material.
他一直在不断地改写他的材料 。
His continual demands for sympathy became quite a strain on his friends.
他不断要求同情 ， 这使他的朋友们感到很紧张 。

三、与 successive 的区别
Successive [s?k?ses?v] ， 它的英文解释是：following immediately one after the other
由此可见 ， successive 指事物一个接一个地发生或到来的 ， 期间没有间断 ， 只作定语 ， 例如：
He won the World Championship for the third successive year.
他连续第三年获得世界冠军 。
Successive governments have tried to tackle the problem.

四、continuous 和 continual 的区别
虽然 continuous 和 continual 有明显的区别 ， 但是它们之间的差异正逐渐消失 ， 而且慢慢地被交替使用 ， 但是如果真的遇到一些“较真”的场合 ， 那么还是该用什么就用什么 ， 那么就是 continuous 更常用作“持续的 ， 连续的”意思 ， 而 continual 更常用作“频繁的 ， 反复的”意思 。
